FAQ

  • What is your philosophy?
Our philosophy at Studio Bijoux Hawaii is founded on the idea that you must have a certain baseline technical mastery in order to create quality work. Because of this, we believe that process is just as important, if not more so, than the end result. There is no good reason for skipping or rushing through steps. Our instructor trained at a highly respected college in Japan, and their focus on proper method was firmly ingrained in her.
  • Why focus on sterling silver?
Working with sterling silver is more complicated and requires more tools than fine silver. However, hard work pays off, as its strength allows for more intricate and elaborate designs.
  • Why are the class times and level times different? For example, an adult class runs two hours in length, while the recommended time needed for Basic Level One is four hours.
We do this because 1) we want to convey proper technique and 2) prevent burn out from looking at small things for too long. The truth is that each student possesses a different ability depending upon experience and manual dexterity. Some people are just better with their hands. Some people like to take their time learning and are happy to focus on process as opposed to “getting it done.”
  • How can I book a class?
Please refer to the calendar on the web site menu. Click on the day and class you want and enter the required information. You will get an email from us, payment invoice will be sent to your email address through Paypal. You can also call us with your credit card information. Finally, don’t be shy: come on by to check out the studio and bring cash or a personal check.
  • Why do I have to pay ahead of time to secure a spot on the calendar?
Our goal is to keep class size small so that every student can have their share of attention from our instructor. This is a conscious decision that limits our financial return but ensures quality of instruction. When someone signs up for a spot and then does not show, it translates into a loss for us and keeps other students from learning. Classes are non-refundable and non-transferable, so please check your schedule before making an appointment.
  • Do I need to bring anything to class?
For safety, we ask you wear closed shoes and tie long hair back. We provide a fire resistant work apron, but please bring a work rag and a notebook in the event you would like to take notes from our lectures. Remember also that you will be looking closely at small details, so you may need eye wear if you have a hard time with your eyes. Consumable materials are available at the studio, such as saw blades, sand paper, and silver bars. These costs are listed on the level chart. Also, you must sign a liability waiver form.
  • Where can I park?
We understand that traffic is a big concern these days! However, it is important that we start our classes on time. Therefore we want to recommend some places to park. We have tons of metered parking, both on our street, 12th Ave. and on Kokohead Ave. Furthermore, there are two large pay parking lots right next to us. If you don’t mind a little walk, you can find free street parking just a few blocks away, up the hill or farther down Waialae.
